Dr Peter Bance

CEO
Origami Energy Ltd

Peter completed a science degree at UNB in Canada and then won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University where he earned a Ph.D. in Physics and rowed in two University Boat Races against Cambridge.

Peter then moved to PA Consulting’s Product and Process Engineering practice where he worked with a range of international clients on consumer product development, manufacturing process improvements and due diligence for private equity investments.

After PA, he established and grew a successful corporate venturing practice at Generics Group in Cambridge (UK) focusing on venture creation, licensing, fund raising, business planning, and commercial negotiation. Peter acted as interim CEO for a number of new ventures in a range of markets, focusing on the energy/cleantech sector.

Peter then joined Ceres Power as CEO, leading the company through a successful flotation on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange.  He helped the company raise equity financing, build the team, and establish channels to market for its innovative combined heat and power product.

Peter has also been non-executive director of two UK-based cleantech businesses and Board Observer of the Energy Technologies Institute.  Most recently, Peter was Entrepreneur in Residence at a leading London-based investment firm called Octopus Investments where he assisted with the growth of portfolio companies, helped assess new deals for prospective venture capital investments and advised on aspects of the firm’s energy investment strategy and renewables projects.

Peter founded Origami Energy in 2013 with the vision of creating the marketplace for the distributed energy world. The company is developing the technical and financial mechanisms by which fleets of distributed energy assets (including generation, energy storage and demand side response) can interact directly with each other and transact peer-to-peer. The company is trialling this smart technology platform initially in the UK and then aims to roll it out globally.
