By 2030, we aim to have a clean power system, and by 2050, the entire UK energy system should be Net Zero. This system is not just pipes, wires, molecules and electrons, it’s the foundation that underpins our health, our economy and our modern society. Those more ‘experienced’ among us will likely recall “the candle drawer” that was a mainstay of most homes in decades gone past, kept “just in case” of a power cut. These days though, through incredible efforts, engineering expertise and infrastructure build we’ve largely got rid of the candle drawer, a sign that we have adjusted to an energy system that is incredibly reliable and resilient.
